Jack and Josephine have been purchased under licence from the Josephine and Jack Project since 2014. They were designed by individuals with a learning disability in Northumberland.
Within Northumbria Healthcare Community and Northumberland County Council there are a group of trained facilitators from education, public health, training and development, care management and community learning disabilities nursing. They are responsible for the delivery and development of workshops to assist men and woman with learning disabilities to understand and deal with a range of sensitive issues, such as promoting wellbeing, friendship, sexuality, sexual rights, safeguarding, a range of health and social care issues.
Through games, group exercises and role play, men and women with learning disabilities work with Josephine or Jack to learn and explore these issues in a fun, safe and informal environment. Josephine and Jack can also be used as an interactive tool in dealing with some safeguarding issues, to enhance understanding and communication.
Jack and Josephine are used to complement existing care management practices where an alternative approach would be of benefit to an individual.
